“Three members of the feminist punk band, Pussy Riot, are being charged with “hooliganism” and have been remanded in jail.  Maria Alekhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Ekaterina Samusevich, face up to 7 years criminal punishment if convicted, for participating in the punk-prayer, ‘Virgin Mary, Send Putin Away’. The event publicly demonstrated in favour of human rights against the current oppressive regime under Vladimir Putin. This case illustrates the gross level of violations against human rights in Russia and requires immediate attention. The detained activists now need the support of the world’s community.”

The event will run all day with zine and comic stalls, bands, DJs and guest speakers in attendance, committed to seeking justice and freeing these women. The Organisers:

NOT SO POPULAR:

…are a collaborative group of young artists and writers who live in London. We were all a bit tired of doing lots of work that was never seen by anyone else except our nans, so we joined together to put on poetry events, art exhibitions and club-nights. We promote new music through our ‘In the Chapel’ sessions and create a cultural ‘zines to explore how art, music and poetry fits into modern life. We believe in personality- a myriad of different voices drumming along the inner-city streets with creative cries. Not So Popular take their inspiration from the depths of cultural talent because everything from Van Gogh’s ear to Brian Harvey’s baked potato were not so popular at one point.

GIRLS GET BUSY

is a non- profit feminist collective supporting female writers, musicians and artists with a monthly zine available at the webshop and stocked in various Zine Libraries throughout England. Girls Get Busy have produced mixtapes that feature unsigned female artists, hosted zine parties with bands during 2011, curated an exhibition of female artists at The Shacklewell December 2011 and are currently hosting workshops on a monthly basis. In March 2012, Girls Get Busy co-hosted a book reading event with Storm in a Teacup for Riot Grrrl legend Sara Marcus and her book ‘Girls to the Front’. Girls get Busy often has a stall at various zinefests around London, including The Women’s Library.

STORM IN A TEACUP

is a London based collective set up with the aim of promoting women in the arts. Fed up with finding no platform for our amazingly talented female musician, writer, poet, artist and illustrator friends we decided to do something about it.In 2010 STORM IN A TEACUP helped to programme LADYFEST TEN festival celebrating 10 years of the feminist arts DIY subculture with a 3 day festival of music and arts. In 2011 STORM IN A TEACUP were invited to be a part of the first ever Women of the World Festival at the Southbank Centre. More recently STORM IN A TEACUP have also actively supported East London Fawcett Group and their campaigns.
