Bloc Party are rolling back the years with new track Octopus, channeling the spirit of 2005 in the new video where we’re treated to splashes of nu-rave colour, a warehouse location and a tune that would have packed the dancefloor at Trash. Taken from their fourthcoming (sic) album, the aptly named Four, the lead single along with the rest of the album is produced by Alex Newport who’s sat behind the desk for the likes of The Mars Volta and Death Cab For Cutie.
Speaking to Zane Lowe after he’d given Octopus it’s debut play on his show last night lead singer Kele Okereke said ”This song was one of the last songs that we wrote [for Four]… We knew we had something so we kept beavering away and, before we knew it, we had it.”
The single is available for download now, with a physical release accompanied by B-side Straight Thru Cru out on August 13th. Four follows a week later on August 20th.
Bloc Party have also announced the following autumn tour dates:
12 Newcastle O2 Academy
13 Leeds O2 Academy
14 Glasgow O2 Academy
15 Birmingham O2 Academy
17 Southampton Guildhall
18 Bristol O2 Academy
19 Manchester WHP
20 Cambridge Corn Exchange
I’m guessing an announcement on a London show will be soon to follow…
