ART: Girls – Tara Dougans
Both artists explore representing the female form splicing together women and animals to create a hybrid gender. Male/Female/It all unite to do away with gender roles leaving in the ashes the combined force of sexuality and humorous imagery…
Tara Dougans
Dougans explores the strength of the human face. There is a mix of femininity and toughness in the Frida Khalo stares and the sweeps of an Aubrey Beardsley pencil. Building a world of angular graphics, women with the faces of dogs and the arms of spiders has an eerie effect which gathers the viewer up into the fairytale land. The a mix of fashion and graphite pencil creations which truly create an animalistic female which is heightened with the splashes of colour which emphasise the carnival world which steps out of the paper.

Margarida Girao
“Oniric and wild atmosphere with sensual and erotic feminine figures” is how Margarida Girao describes the collage creations created. Naked torsos stand loftily inbetween lush, exotic foliage and added appendages range from cockerels to laser beam nipples to create a ‘Return to the Forbidden Planet’ vibe. The richness of the greenery evokes a return to Eden; the fall of the first woman. By removing the heads of the bodies the question is raised to what are we looking for within the female form? Is it beauty and sexuality, or as the animal heads suggest is it bestiality and soft-core porn sexual fantasy?
